One would think that most beginner’s woodworking classes would actually have tools there for you to use so you would not have to bring your own and you should be able to use the shop’s tools. However, the basic tools below are always in our most basic toolbox, and would be good to bring (and might get you a leg up with the teacher if you come prepared on the first day):
- Tape measure
- Drill (if you have one)
- Multiple drill bits (if you have a drill)
Your first class should give you a bit of a better idea of what tools you will need for the class. Many woodworkers use air compressors and a number of different saws depending on the space available in their workshop. Many also use grinders and sanders, as well as wood glue and more specialized tools (we use a Kreg Jig for joining corners, for example). As you get more advanced in your training, you will learn which tools and which brands you should purchase or use. Have fun at your class!
